Foxton Skills Builders : KS1 Reading and Comprehension Study & Practice Book for Ages 5-7

The Foxton KS1 Reading and Comprehension Study and Practice Book aims to:

• promote learning through fun activities
• encourage reading and comprehension at the child’s pace
• assess and celebrate success along the way

Children read a variety of different types of texts in KS1 from fiction, non-fiction, poetry, instructions, recipes, letters to postcards, e-mails and more.

When reading these texts, children are expected to be able to talk about vocabulary and make sensible guesses at the meanings of unfamiliar words based on the available context and information. They should recognise the structure and layout of different texts such as titles, subheadings, captions, pictures, diagrams, characters and events. They should understand the sequence of events in texts, making plausible suggestions for discreet references to behaviour and events along with predicting what might happen in the text. Being able to investigate a text in this way shows a thorough comprehension or understanding of what they read.
